Some couples meet by chance. Taylor and Derek were set up by the two people who knew them best.

Their best friends, Kendra and Will, got married on January 14, 2023. Kendra was Taylor’s close friend from high school, and Will was Derek’s best friend from college, and the newlyweds had a feeling the two would hit it off. Taylor and Derek were both in the wedding party but didn’t actually talk until later that night, when Derek asked Taylor to dance to a slow country song in her small hometown of Minster. The dance was so convincing that Taylor’s parents asked how long they had been married. Without realizing it, the two had wandered onto the floor during the anniversary dance.

For the first ten months, they made a long-distance relationship work. Derek was finishing his master’s degree in Healthcare Administration and playing football in Fort Wayne, Indiana, while Taylor was teaching in Columbus, three hours away. Through job changes and moves, they kept choosing each other. Derek eventually surprised Taylor with a photoshoot that turned into a proposal, followed by a surprise engagement party at his parents’ home in Bellefontaine.

On July 18, 2026, Taylor and Derek celebrated their marriage at The Grange Hall, surrounded by about 200 family and friends, with a black tie summer wedding that was elegant, joyful, and full of the people who brought them together.

A Black and White Wedding Party

Taylor and Derek surrounded themselves with a 20-person wedding party dressed in classic black. The bridesmaids wore floor-length black gowns in a variety of silhouettes and carried lush bouquets of white hydrangea and roses, while the groomsmen matched in black tuxedos and bow ties.

Against The Grange Hall’s black exterior and oversized glass garage door, the group created a striking, timeless look, and their energy made for some of the most fun photos of the day.

Modern Bridal Style

Taylor chose a sleek off-the-shoulder crepe gown with a dramatic leg slit and a long train, paired with a veil and pointed white heels. Her bouquet of white blooms and greenery kept the look clean and refined.

Derek wore a classic black tuxedo with a bow tie and a white rose boutonniere. Later in the evening, Taylor changed into a second look, a strapless ruched gown with a slit, perfect for a night of dancing, and swapped her heels for white sneakers.

An Outdoor Ceremony After the Rain

The couple exchanged vows outdoors at 3:30 p.m. on the north patio, in front of The Grange Hall’s glass garage doors, framed by tall white pedestals topped with white hydrangea, stock, roses, and trailing greenery.

A passing rain shower right before the ceremony didn’t slow anything down. Our team wiped down every ceremony chair, the clouds parted, and the couple said “I do” under bright summer skies.

A Reception Full of Family and Fun

Inside, round tables dressed in black linens and white chairs carried the palette into the reception, with a neon sign reading “The Robbs” glowing behind the head table and black and white photos of the couple displayed on the screens.

After a 5:30 grand entrance, guests enjoyed a buffet-style dinner from Little Italy featuring homemade chicken Alfredo and spaghetti and meatballs, while The Pulse Brands handled both the bar and the music for the night. One of the sweetest moments of the evening came when Derek shared a dance with his mom as family and friends looked on.

A Party from the Loft

Later in the night, Taylor and Derek headed up to The Grange Hall’s loft overlooking the dance floor and tossed keepsakes down to a crowd of cheering guests, a fun, high-energy moment everyone will remember. To keep the party going, Depot 110 served up late-night pizza for hungry dancers.

Sunset by the Pond and a Sparkler Send-Off

As the sun went down, the couple stepped outside for portraits by the pond, where the sky turned brilliant shades of orange and pink.

At 9:00 p.m., guests lined the walkway with sparklers for a glowing grand exit. Derek dipped Taylor for one last kiss between the rows of sparks before the celebration wrapped up with a private last dance, and shuttles carried guests back to the Fairfield Inn.

From a slow dance at a friend’s wedding to a summer celebration of their own, Taylor and Derek’s wedding was proof that sometimes your best friends really do know best.
